We’re lovers. You know that. But every now and again, something comes across our desks that just seems... suspicious. Because of the tremendous material upside to all our lives if these claims pan out, we at times put ourselves in harm’s way to investigate. Albeit skeptically. We call it: Skeptical Investigation. (Trademark pending.) THE CLAIM A new website called Brain Shift Radio claims it can control your mood through music. As in shifting your mental state anywhere from tired to creative to hyper-focused by streaming specialized ambient tracks. They call it “Rhythmic Entertainment Intervention.” We call it “Creepy Pandora.” Also, we’re skeptical... THE INVESTIGATION So we tasked our most musically inclined sleuth with a bit of field testing. Since reports of fatigue were indicated prior to the investigation (something about sunrise hot-tub water polo), the “I’d like more energy” category was selected. Then our investigator was given the option of selecting a subcategory. “I’m really wasted and physically uncomfortable” also felt fitting (see above). Then, they listened... ... to some weird-as-all-hell ambient tracks with names like “Low Organ” and “Lost Boy Pad” (your guess is as good as ours). THE VERDICT If you’re trying to fall asleep or harness your chi, sure. We could see this being beneficial there. As for any other mood you’re trying to achieve... ... Just stay away from “Lost Boy Pad.” |
