| | | | December 18, 2018 | | Our Favorite Food and Drink Stories of 2018 In Case You Missed Them the First Time Around... | | | | | | | It's been a long year. Some good things happened; some bad things happened. (Okay, mostly bad things happened.) But in spite of everything that's transpired in 2018, we'd like to take a moment of personal introspection. To reflect. To look back. To recirculate some stories about international beer lists, weed whiskey and the tyranny of frozen cocktails. Yes, you guessed it: these are our favorite food and drink stories of 2018. For starters: we located the eight most impressive beer lists on earth. Add them to your wish list. In March, we rounded up 10 of the finest steaks from around the world for you to gawk at. That sure was nice of us. Cait Munro answered the question we were all asking ourselves: why are Flamin' Hot Cheetos everywhere right now? We tracked the rise and fall of LaCroix through social media. Hey, somebody had to do it... One editor spent a night at Chicago's "conceptual watering hole." It was...interesting. That same editor unleashed a tirade against the "sad melting pile of whatever" that is the frozen cocktail. Please do not send him your hate mail. Two new distilleries opened on the Kentucky bourbon trail: one with a 65-foot high glass atrium and London dry gin, the other with a working cooperage where new, handmade barrels get raised and charred before being filled with the good stuff. We chatted with whiskey expert and author Aaron Goldfarb about infusions, fat washes and other avant-garde "hacks" for your favorite spirit. It was edifying, to say the least. We enlisted former Playboy booze columnist and current American wine expert, Dan Dunn, to give you some tips on buying, gifting and talking about wine this holiday season. Study up. | | | | | | | | | |
