Currently, your beer-opening goes something like this:
Step 1: Open beer.
Step 2: Drink beer.
It's a pretty good system.
But soon, it could be more like this:
Step 1: Open beer.
Step 2: Bottle opener texts friends that you opened said beer.
Step 3: Friends rush to your location or join you for a virtual drink.
It's probably best if we just embrace it and don't ask too many questions. But here are the important parts.
This thing's called BOx, it's billed as a smart bottle opener, and it just became available for preorder on Kickstarter.
The opener itself is a functional device that you can operate smoothly with one hand, leaving your other hand free to... open another beer, we guess. And the technical stuff includes an internal wi-fi board that is activated each time you open a beer. It syncs to the app (of course there's an app), so that's how you'll alert everyone to your status as a currently drinking person.
Within that app, you can also keep track of how many bottles you open, earn points and unlock rewards. So there's some more incentive to keep doing what you're doing.
