What's even better than that, though, is having an excellent custom clothing maker do it with you.

Such is the thinking behind the Valentijn raincoat, a collaboration between Sene and yours truly that, in our humble opinion, is the only piece of outerwear fully qualified to get you through showers, April and beyond. It's available right now through UD Perks.

Here's the thing we've always liked about Sene: they're all about the small details. A single off-color button on a shirt. A notch in the back of the waist of a pair of trousers. Details that make a piece just different enough to stand out, without screaming about it. So when they approached us to design something for this spring, we conceded that it would be pretty damn cool.

And so the process began. Poring over mood boards (honest-to-God mood boards) and 3D renderings. Asking ourselves what would be as dependable and timeless as a mac, while being just different enough to make people take notice (a fishtail). Saying things like, "Why the hell are raincoat collars so floppy? Let's lower the profile on this one."

The final product is this—a half-canvassed, handmade, 100% lightweight Japanese cotton gabardine beauty in olive, black or classic khaki, with bull horn buttons and Japanese Bemberg lining that drapes like you were born in it.

And because Sene made it, it's custom. So you'll stop by their NYC or LA space (or use their home fitting service) and be sized to make sure it fits like your finest-tailored sport coat. The fit's guaranteed, and they'll do any alterations you need, gratis.
