It was a simpler time.
The beauty of today being a less simple time: that poem now serves as the namesake of a brilliant Sri Lankan hotel.
Meet Owl and the Pussycat, a sultry haven for enthusiasts of structural odes to literature, now open in the southern coastal town of Thalpe.
There's a very worldly yet homey feel going on here. Maybe it's that jazz bands play on weekends, personal grocery deliveries are available, and the furniture, textiles and artwork were all handmade by 20 international artists. Take a gander.
If you need "things to do," you can always go sailing, or go hiking, or learn how to fish with the local stilt fishermen. But if you don't, there's a spa, an ocean-edge swimming pool and a beach shack slinging piña coladas and mojitos. The choice is yours.
And then there's the restaurant, with things like lobster tail poached in coconut milk and basil panna cotta. It's called the Runcible Spoon after a line in the poem.
