Spend more time on sunny rooftops in faraway lands that start with the words “Playa del...” There. That’s it. That’s the only resolution you made that you need to worry about at the moment. Because it’s time to become acquainted with Thompson Playa del Carmen, a glorious hotel that just opened in the Mexican paradise of Riviera Maya. There are things about this place you need to know. Know them: The rooftop is significant. Meaning, 30,000 square feet of infinity pool spotted with those partially submerged lounge chairs, two restaurants, 360-degree views and many bronzed bodies viewing them. (Slideshow time.) One of those restaurants is called Catch. Yep, from the same guys behind NYC’s Catch, and it’s pretty much the same bar-restaurant-club situation. Think: truffle sashimi, toro tartare, salmon belly carpaccio, things of that nature. Things that happen to pair exceedingly well with jalapeño-infused-tequila cocktails. And soon, a beach house is coming. In case an intimate spot nearby with 27 private-terrace-having suites, cabanas and a beachfront pool sounds more your speed. It’s a respectable speed. |
