Right now, you might not be considering riding out some of the holiday season in a tiny hotel in coastal Massachusetts.

But, oh, the month is young...

And at some point it may call for the Merchant, a richly decorated 11-room hideout where our nation’s first president once called it a night—it’s open now in Salem for all your going-off-grid needs. Your slideshow’s right here.

And... cue the informative bolded sentences.

The property belonged to a sea merchant who imported molasses for rum purposes.
A purpose you support. Pretty much everything inside is a nod to the land’s history. Think: deep hues, floating staircases and Asian-inspired decor.

Out there on the deck you’ll find a fire pit.
Not quite a nod to the land’s history, but... fire pit.

If you leave the building, you may learn things.
Revolutionary War sites, the country’s oldest museum, a reconstructed 1797 merchant ship... you know. Salem things.

George Washington galloped into Salem and demanded what is now a King Deluxe room back in 1789.
When it comes to informative bolded sentences, that’s a good one to end on.
