At some point this Memorial Day weekend, you’ll be hot. Or parched. Or by a beach and wishing you had something cold within arm’s reach. At that moment, you’ll be thankful for Japan. Look east for Sapporo, the legendary frosty Japanese lager that’s poised to be your go-to beer when the weather gets hot, available now. What we’re talking about, of course, is the beer they’ve been brewing in Japan since 1876 (we’re not sure who was president then, but we bet he had a mustache). And it’s been coming stateside since 1964. You know it. Silver can, 22 ounces, tends to coincide with good times. And sure, it may conjure up all sorts of exotic images like kimonos, red sunsets, ancient-looking pagodas and... more kimonos. But it’s a crisp, refreshing lager, so it should also conjure up summery images of you and a BBQ, a bocce court or a late-night rooftop scene. The steamier, the better. |
