Introducing
Tunaspot, a location-based Spotify app that lets you listen to—or create—a playlist pegged to anywhere in the world, available now.
Think of this as a global game of Risk. But instead of armies, you’re marking your territory with James Brown, LCD Soundsystem and/or the Beastie Boys.
Let’s say you’re traveling to San Francisco. Launch the app in Spotify and start browsing the map. You’ll see an icon over Alcatraz, where someone has uploaded a jailhouse playlist. In DC, you’ll find the president’s campaign playlist tagged to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, REO Speedwagon and all. Or if you’re just interested in seeing what people in Sweden are listening to since Ace of Base broke up, well, you can do that, too.
Now, being that this thing is in its infancy, there are plenty of places out there that still need a playlist. So you’ll want to get to work dragging and dropping your own spirited compilations onto the map once you find the spot you’re looking for. The Vatican, for example, is playlist-free.
We hear the pope is a big Carly Rae Jepsen fan.
