2012: so far, so good. In fact, we're thinking you can sit back, relax and enjoy a good old-fashioned home-cooked meal. At someone else's Tuscan villa... Which brings us to NewGusto, a site for finding exotic and talented strangers who want to have you over for dinner, accepting bold diners and chefs now. This is like one of those home exchange sites—except you only stay for a few hours, and there's a strong possibility of you feasting on someone's grandma's legendary recipe for mofongo. In other words, it's just a bunch of people who want to share their homes and food with you while you're traveling. Most of the chefs right now are in Italy (seems like a solid start), so first you'll want to do some research. (And maybe book a trip to Florence.) To help: the site's rating system, based on kindness, "gusto," location, cost and the highly scientific chef's hat scale. (Three equals good.) From there, you'll be able to see their location, whether they expect money (or if they'll accept vino instead) and their interests (in case you want to, you know, talk during the meal). We should also mention that you're more than welcome to offer up your own place and culinary artistry for others. We hear you've got some interesting ideas for chocolate sauce. |
