In a Swiss-Alps-resort-finding contest, the question is always “How high can you go?”

And the answer is... 2,112 meters.

Crane your neck for Chetzeron, a hotel set so high up in the Swiss Alps that it can only be reached by foot, ski or snowmobile, now open in Crans-Montana.

What you see is a ski-in, ski-out resort in a former gondola station. What you get is a wood-and-stone room with gigantic windows overlooking the Rhône Valley. What you also get is near-immediate access to a giant mountain slope and a ski locker. So hopefully you’re not a sleepwalker. (See what we mean here.)

You’re thinking: it’s not ski season yet. You’re right. But until then, you can hike up and drop your bags in one of the 16 rooms. And from there, it’s relaxing on sheepskin chairs on the terrace. Taking a dip in the outdoor pool. Staring at the view from your bathtub (because of course there’s a view from your tub).

And then, when night falls, it’s straight to the dimly lit bar for sipping an herbal liqueur or two by the fireplace.

Just kidding. Night doesn’t have to fall first.
